![]() | The North Carolina Renaissance Faire is proud to present the Heavy athletics on April 10-11 for Tartan Day. This is the Clash of the Titans where men and boys are separated. Heavy Athletics are a modern-day continuation of an age-old Scottish Tradition. They may appear to only require significant strength and power, but they are actually a test of technique and skill. Some of the events one might see at a competition may include Stone-throwing, weight tossing, hammer-throwing, Caber tossing, and sheaf tossing. This sport is sometimes confused with the "Strongman" competition which lifts and throws much heavier objects; although, some strongman competitions are held in conjunction with heavy athletics competitions. This year the NCRF will hold its first Professional-Amatuer competition with some of the Top Professional and Amateurs from across the country. Among the Professional that will be attending: Larry Brock (NC), Chris Chafin (NC), Mike Pockoski (NC), Mark Valenti (OH), Chris St. Clair (NC), and Kerry Overfelt (TN). Amateurs: Chris Lemming (TN), John Collins (MD), Myles Wetzal (LA), Beau Fray (MD), Jeff Crouch (NC) and many other athletics from around the surrounding states. |
